In Microsoft Teams (free), you can add tasks for yourself or others, edit tasks you or your friends have added, or complete tasks in one-on-one and group chats. Find out how to create a task list here.

  1. Go to the chat in which you want to create a task list.

  2. Tap and hold on the message you'd like to create a new task for, then tap Create task.

  3. Adjust the options as you wish, including picking the task list you want the task to appear in. Tap Save when you're done updating the task.

  1. Go to the chat in which you want to edit a task.

  2. Tap the chat or group header at the top of the screen.

  3. Under Task lists, go to the list where you want to edit a task.

  4. Tap the task you want to edit. From here you can:

    • Add people button Assign the task to a group member (only available in shared task lists). The person to whom you assigned the task will get a notification in their Activity feed.

    • The Add event button Add a Due date to the task

    • Mark as important button Use the slider to mark the task as Important.

    • Meeting notes button Add Notes to the task.

    • Add checklist item button Add a checklist item.

    • Delete button Deletethe task.

  1. Go to the list where you want to delete a task.

  2. Tap the task you want to delete.

  3. Tap Delete Delete button.

  4. Confirm you want to delete the task.

  1. Go to the list where you want to complete the task.

  2. Tap next to the task to complete it. You can also tap next to the task again to unmark the task as completed.

  1. Go to the chat in which you want to create a task list.

  2. Go to the chat in which you want to add a task.

  3. Select the task list at the top of the chat window.

  4. Enter your task name in the New task field.

  5. Press the Enter key to add your new task.

  6. Repeat the process for any additional tasks.

    Tips: 

    • From the mini Teams window in Windows 11, select the button The open Teams button in Mini Teams. to open Microsoft Teams (free).

    • From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams button  Teams open Teams in Windows 11.

  2. Go to the chat in which you want to assign, edit, or delete a task.

  3. Select the task list at the top of the chat window, then select the task you want to assign, edit, or delete.

  4. Double click the task you want to edit. You can:

    • More options button - Select the more menu to Delete Teams delete message button the task.

    • Teams OK button - Mark task as completed.

    • Add people button - Assign the task to a group member (only available in shared task lists). The person to whom you assigned the task will get a notification in their Activity feed.

    • Priority - Set the task's priorityto Important or Medium.

    • Due date - Add a due date to the task.

    • Notes - Type a description or add notes for the task

  1. Open Microsoft Teams (free).

    Tips: 

    • From the mini Teams window in Windows 11, select the button The open Teams button in Mini Teams. to open Microsoft Teams (free).

    • From Chat in Windows 11, select the Open Teams button  Teams open Teams in Windows 11.

  2. Go to the chat in which you want to complete a task, then select the task list at the top of the chat window.

  3. Select next to the task to complete it.

    • Select the more menu More options button to Delete Delete button the task.

  1. Go to the chat in which you want to complete a task, then select the task list at the top of the chat window.

  2. Select next to the task to complete it.
