Finally working like it used to

I’ve used one note since 2007 when I bought a tablet PC. The program just made sense. All your lecture notes and handwritten annotations , PDFs, screen shots in one place.
The initial release on Mac seemed to offer less features, however now it works wonderfully. I love being able to add PDF documents of Readings or PowerPoint/keynote slides on the iMac, sync these to my iPad version and then highlight and hand write notes on my IPad Pro with Apple Pencil. Although an expensive way to take notes, having everything organised in one place is so valuable to me.
Occasionally I have had issues with sync , especially when working away from an internet connection so you do need to ensure if using this on you Mac (eg adding documents to annotate ) that you sync the iPad version as well.
Would be great to save locally , maybe I’m missing how to do that.
Having tried other note taking software. What I really like about OneNote is that you can have individual note books with sections and then pages within that section . For example I sort my notebooks by subject, each subject notebook has a week or lecture topic , then each week or topic has a page for each reading , lecture or handwritten notes .

Thanks for a great app.

Handy little app.

This app is very handy, and easy to use on the go. I use it all the time to make notes on all sorts of things. I love how you can organise pages into sections and notebooks. I use it as a diary as well.
And the other great thing is that it syncs across all devices.
Hardly a day goes by without me using OneNote to record or recall something.
My only complaint is that when copying and pasting to or from other apps, the font size is usually a different size to the default and on the mobile app you can’t change font sizes.

It could be great…

But it’s not. I am using one note on the newest iPad Air and it is very buggy.

When I try and draw a straight line with the Apple Pencil it will scroll to a random part of the page with the start of the line where I first touched the screen. This makes the tool unusable.

Also the lasso tool is terrible. You have to completely circle what you want to select and if you miss even half a millimetre of the line you have to try again. I much prefer the way almost every other notes app does it. For example both apple notes and good notes allow you to select a stroke just by circle it part of it with the lasso tool.

Drawing geometrical shapes is a hassle too, both apps I mentioned above allow you to draw a shape by holding your pencil still after free-handing it.

I only use One Note when I have to, this is when i have a pdf with little room to annotate over necessitating drawing outside of the page. That is the only advantage of this app. Apple Freeform has an endless page just like this but it doesn’t allow you to inset a pdf that is immediately viewable and able to be annotated on with the page.

So to conclude I only recommend this if you need the extra annotation space.
