At the command prompt, type the command that corresponds to your version of Word: Word 2016, Word 2013, Word 2010, or Word 2007: "ren %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates\Normal.dotm OldNormal.dotm". In the Save As dialog box, under Save as type, select the file format you want. For example, you can save your document (.docx) as a Word 97-2003 document (.doc) so someone using an earlier version of Word can open it. If you want to rename the file, type a new name in the File name box. Select Save.
